These sensors are prone to getting covered with dust and dirt (or mud). They are located on the inside left and right of the rear bumper. There are two BSM sensors on most Toyota vehicles. There is some good news for many owners who get the Check Blind Spot Monitor Systems error. If that is true, nothing but a dealer visit for some warranty work will be able to fix that problem. There are also reports that the new 2016 Toyota Tacoma’s and Lexus vehicles are shipping with driver’s side mirrors that contain a short in the BSM equipment, which causes this error.
